A big comeback album from 'UFO' that features a classic lineup that includes both 'Michael Schenker' and 'Paul Raymond' as well as three other original members. Musically this is along the lines of 'UFO' twenty years previous, but in my opinion better, for a start the production is vastly superior and the song writing is arguably better. While I don't pretend to be an expert on 'UFO' I would go as far as to say this is their best studio release, though the addition of two versions of old classics 'Doctor, Doctor' and 'Lights Out' is pushing it a bit.

First off is 'A Self Made Man' that features an intro that is ultra heavy especially for 'UFO', the song mellows and turns into a intricate number that balances lighter verses with heavier nastier sections. 'Phil Mogg' turns in a admirable performance, far better than his 70's work and is supported superbly- A excellent opener if not indicative of their usual work. The tempo falls for the exquisite 'Venus', again the song is structured as to contrast melodic balladsy verses with that of guitar driven sections and as with the 'A Self Made Man' works fabulously to make for a another layered jewel. More straight forward is the mid paced rocker 'Pushed to the Limit', lyrically it's not up to the previous crackers, but still makes for an enjoyable mid paced rocker. I don't find 'Stopped by a Bullet' so favourable, it takes a more Southern Blues approach and while it's still quite hooky in places, it brings back memories of more mediocre tracks from their 70's albums. Much better is the rhythm heavy 'Darker Days', the riffs and licks from 'Michael Schenker' are elegant and although I'm not too sure about the Christian style lyrics, 'Phil Mogg' does a superb job on another album highlight. Next up is 'Running on Empty', not one of my personal favourites as there's elements of a Country feel about it and despite some fine fret work, it's a bit predictably. 'Knock, Knock' follows with a traditional 'UFO' feel, lyrically it's doesn't impress me so much, but the rhythm work is solid and makes for a decent lightweight rocker. The last of the new material takes the shape of 'Dreaming of Summer' a Beatlesesque sounding balladsy piece, not the best material present, but still very well executed. 'Doctor, Doctor' is the first of two new versions of old songs and here they really excel, this has always been one of 'UFO's' best tracks and here they enhance it further by adding a melodic atmospheric intro, then turn up the pace and really hit it hard. The rhythm section gets it bang on with a fine display of time keeping while 'Phil Mogg' works the lyrics well and all said makes for my favourite cut present. Last up is a re-jigged rendition of 'Lights Out', again they enhance the original by making it harder and a faster, the crystal clear production helps no end, but this is still superior with more choice intricate fret work bettering that of the original.

A very good release that any old or new fan of 'UFO' should have in their collection. Despite the addition of two re-worked tracks- It would have been nice to have a full ten tracks worth of new material, this is a fine comeback and especially nice to see all the old faces in the band 25 years on.
