'Screaming Symphony' sees 'Impellitteri' continuing in the stunning vein as the last album and is yet another masterclass in guitar fuelled Melodic Power Metal. Arguably this release find 'Impellitteri' at their peak, the 'Chris' / 'Rob' partnership is truly memorable throughout, as they notch up nine blazing tracks without a ballad in sight for you listening pleasure. There is one downfall however, a 33 minute running time even by 'Impellitteri' standards is disappointing and in my book makes this a long E.P.
Your speaker onslaught opens with the glorious 'Father Forgive Them' a pulsating gem laced with glorious vocals from 'Rob Rock', typical 'Impellitteri' Christian lyrics and a magnificent solo from 'Chris'. Brisker still is the energetic 'I'll be with You' a dazzling rhythm fuelled rocker, that combines smart lyrics with a clever song structure, plus the excellent keyboard skills of 'Ed Roth' and the usual extraordinary fret work. The fine run continues with the melodic rocker 'Walk Away' which just drips with class, 'Rob Rock' works the lyrics magnificently, especially the silky smooth chorus, which is a joy to be heard. More quality is brought about by the riff driven jewel known as 'Kingdom of Light', lyrically it's Christian orientated, but this takes nothing away from another sublime number. Perhaps a little more predictable but still impressive is the grooving 'Countdown to the Revolution' a pretty basic affair by 'Impellitteri' standards but still upheld by 'Robs' glorious vocals and 'Chris's' divine guitar licks. The only instrumental takes the shape of '17th Century Chicken Pickin'', a short but stunning piece of brisk 'Chris Impellitteri' neo-classical fret work, that's excellently complimented by an agile display from 'Ed Roth' that should not be overlooked. It's back to ripping Melodic Power Metal with the blazing 'Rat Race', anyone who doubt's 'Chris's' guitar excellence should checkout the shredding intro- wow, the rest of the track fails to disappoint, with head-swaying rhythm and catchy well sung lyrics. 'For your Love' follows and with a title like that you'd probably expect a ballad, you would however be wrong, this is another top drawer groover which is graced by beautiful melodic vocals from 'Rob' and some splendid rhythm and solo work. Last up is 'You are the Fire' and it all comes together for this phenomenal track, the guitaring is stellar, while the vocals on the chorus are unsurpassable, lyrically pretty simplistic but just superbly executed- one of Impellitteri's best.
A brilliant release that highlights a band where all the member are on the top of their game, regrettably I had to mark this a little lower than I wanted, as 33 minutes is just not a full albums worth.
