'Twisted Sister's' last release before calling it a day, unfortunately they don't go out on a high. As with the previous release 'Come out and Play' there are a couple of quality tracks present but the rest is mediocre filler and overall 'Love is for Suckers' is regrettably a weaker follow up. Generally their most commercial sounding album and this release does have a sold out feel about it as 'Dee Snider' seems happy to release a load of 'Def Leppard' style rock ballads. One point I never noticed before are the names who contributed, 'Steve Whiteman', 'Jimmy Chalfant' from 'Kix' and 'Kip Winger' make up additional backing vocalists while 'Reb Beach' contributed on guitar while arranging with 'TNT's' fret master 'Ronnie Le Tekro', even these big names fail to lift the album.

For all my dispirited comments 'Love is for Suckers' starts off with three quality tracks, after these however the album goes into free fall. The opener 'Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant)' is pure quality, this can easily rest alongside previous 'Sister' classics with it's sublime heavy plod, cracking 'Dee Snider' vocals and superior fist raising chorus. More light-hearted is the unusual but enjoyable 'Hot Love', at times it has a certain 'Def Leppard' feel about it, but the unmistakable heavy rhythm makes for an enjoyable mid tempo romp. Continuing the strong run is the excellent title track, a spirited rocker which is contrasted by a more comical lyrical approach, it all works well and is supported throughout by the usual quality vocals and sweet fret work. It all starts to go very wrong though with the complete 'Kiss' rip-off 'I'm so Hot for You' and although this isn't one of the worst tracks, it's a pretty lame attempt at commercial success. The first half closes with 'Tonight' a more upbeat affair and while it's not a poor track with the heavy rhythm and solid guitaring, it gets a little repetitive. Side two is really disappointing, a real lacklustre affair which isn't even comparable to 'Twisted Sister's' earlier classics. First up is 'Me and the Boys' and although there's an attempt at a good time rocker, it falls well short and ends up sounding like a bad 'Billy Ocean' song. 'One Bad Habit' follows in similar fashion but worse, lyrically unimaginative, repetitive and far too light for a group of 'Twisted Sister's' status. The bottom completely falls out with the awful 'I Want this Night', a plodding balladsy number which is just plain boring and horrifically trite- Warning Skip. Continuing the poor run is the attempted power ballad 'You are all I Need', a disappointing number that fails to suit 'Dee Snider's' vocals. They close the album with an up tempo effort 'Yeah Right', and while it's better than most of the second half it's still lacking despite some decent guitaring.

'Tis a shame they didn't go-out with a more gutsy album and although the first three tracks are strong this has to go down as 'Twisted Sister's' weakest album.
