Due to commitments 'Rob Rock' was not available for the vocals on this album, so up stepped former 'Rainbow' frontman 'Graham Bonnet'. Don't get me wrong he's an excellent vocalist but Rob Rock has the power and range most singers dream of. Due to this change Impellitteri decided on a more commercial sound for the album than that of their debut E.P. and subsequent albums. In fact this release has a crossover sound somewhere between later 'Rainbow' and 'Yngwie Malmsteen's J Rising Force', a combination that doesn't really work for me, but their are enough sharp cuts to carry it.
The title track is my pick of the album, as it highlights the best from Graham and Chris, with controlled vocals and top shredding. 'Since You've been Gone' is a cover of the top ten chart hit (UK) from 'Rainbow', it strays little from the original with the exception of steadfast guitar work from Chris. 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' is a inappropriate instrumental cover and the lowest part of the album. 'Tonight we Fly' is a great plodding piece, but Graham's vocals sound really strained, this does distract from overall effect. Other strong cuts include the blitzing 'White and Perfect' which is only let down by the odd lyrics, 'Secret Lover' with its great mid track guitar solo, the dark, vocal heavy 'Leviathan' and the well written and performed 'Goodnight and Goodbye'. The album finishes with an excellent trademark 'Impellitteri' guitar shredding instrumental.
All said this is a consistent release, but if you aren't keen on this cut, don't let this put you off 'Impellitteri', later releases are tighter, heavier and shred like an industrial waste disposal unit.
