Consistency should be 'Motörhead's' second name, as 'Snake Bite Love' is yet another stable from Lemmy and the boys. It does however suffers from the usual problems that are especially prevalent in current releases, no standout tracks and not enough variation. I don't especially have a problem with this album, but the tracks do seem to flow into one another, which adds to the repetition factor. Maybe they should experiment with more complex intro and outros- but don't tell 'Lemmy' I suggested it though! On a brighter note the guitar work is some of the strongest I have heard from 'Motörhead'.
My pick of the album is 'Dogs of War' which is a nasty pounding number, with aggressive warlike lyrics and great guitaring. 'Assassin' is another brutal track, but the chorus is far too repetitive. The fast shredder 'Take the Blame' highlights some superb guitar work, but is ultimately let down by weak lyrics. 'Dead and Gone' features some of that aforementioned variety that this album is lacking, as it starts of with subtle vocal work and quickly builds to a polished hard rocker- nice stuff. 'Desperate for You' and 'Don't Lie to Me' are suggestive of early work with their hard hitting rhythms. The album closes with the thundering 'Better of Dead' and again excellent guitar work is prevalent.
If you are looking for an all out, no-holes-barred thrash, then this is right up your street, if you like something with a bit more melody and intricacy then forget it.
