The second album from 'Udo' and the boys and as with the first release they still haven't got things quite right, but with 'I'm a Rebel' they're heading in the right direction. There's a good mix here of quite outstanding songs and some odd Euro offerings, but the unmistakable sound of 'Accept' is more prevalent here than on their self titled debut.

First up is the punky title track 'I'm a Rebel', not really a typical sound for 'Accept', but it's a decent effort with strong basslines, driving riffs and the ever present growling vocals of 'Udo'. Better though is the rollicking 'Save Us', a pulsating gem, that's lyrically strong and features a brilliant sing-a-long chorus supported by strong backing vocals and a superb instrumental break. The pace is dropped for the balladsy 'No Time to Lose', a subtle number with medieval undertones and solid harmonies. I can't be sure but I think the vocals are by bassist 'Peter Baltes', I know he sings 'Breaking up Again' on the next album 'Breaker', anyway It's a fine slower track that breaks the album up nicely. The pace is restored for the galloping 'Thunder and Lightening', a decent rocker but not one of their best. Side two opens up with the finest track present the extremely catchy, riff rolling jewel 'China Lady', the rhythm work is exquisite and combines superbly with 'Udo's' cutting vocals for an unforgettable track. The rest of the disc looses its way a bit, 'I Wanna Be No Hero' is lyrically weak and sounds too pop orientated, 'The King' is a fairly dull slower number, again with vocals that I'm pretty convinced aren't 'Udo's'. Last up is the upbeat 'Do It', a carefree up tempo effort and while it isn't a poor track, it's hardly memorable.

Overall a decent release especially considering the year it was cut, from here on the band will only get better and better- see later reviews. Still can't quite get the lyrics of 'China Lady' out of my head!
