A cracking debut from one of the most consistent and underrated bands around in the mid to late 80's / early 90's and also one of my favourites. A blend of catchy metal, well crafted hard rock and well structured ballads make up this first album and this a style they would maintain until they called it a day in 95'.
'Ez Come Ez Go' is a great tough rocker with a soaring chorus that is catchy as hell, one of those that will still be floating around in your head when you first wake up. 'Cumin' Atcha Live' is my pick of the disc, with its superior guitar work, head bobbing rhythm and strong chorus- turn this one up full blast and give the neighbours a treat!. Other gems include 'Getting Better' with its 'AC DC' style groove, the plodding 'Little Suzi' and the clever grooving '2 Late 4 Love'. 'Rock Me to the Top' is another top rocker, highlighting solid sing-a-long lyrics and great flowing guitar work. 'We're no Good Together' is a strong rock ballad that sounds reminiscent of 80's style 'Rolling Stones'. 'Modern Day Cowboy' is an another gem, that is brilliantly executed, with great guitars, superb well sung lyrics and plenty of emotion- top drawer. 'Cover Queen' is an intricate plodding piece, which features nice guitar work with lots of variation and a solid chorus. The album finishes with the mystical 'Before my Eyes' which is a slow, darker number and a change from Tesla's usual style.
A really excellent album and the first of a strong run. If you like this, then l'm sure you will like the next three studio discs, as they stray little from their great workmanlike formula.
