Another one of those underrated late 80's bands, their music is easily on-a-par with other 'Hair Metal' groups of the time, and they should have made it big. Musically similar to 'Cinderella', 'Ratt' and 'Winger' but with more of an emphasis on melody, but still managing to keep the crunch of their counterparts. A good consistent debut, full of interesting cuts and top performances, especially notable is the excellent guitaring, complements of 'Stevie Blaze' and 'Jon Ster'. Vocalist ''Ron Taylor' is no slouch either and backing vocals are courtesy of 'Paul Winger'.
The opening cut 'Dream of a Lifetime' is an enjoyable romp with catchy chorus, flowing guitar work and a quality atmospheric intro, but perhaps a little light for the first track. A heavy opening chug throws us into the plodding rocker 'Inside Out', an entertaining number, but some of the verses lack melody and sound a bit disjointed, this doesn't make for an easy listen. Much better is the power ballad 'Vision in the Night', where great choruses combine with superb harmonised vocals for a great melodic number, the splendid mid track guitar solo is also worth a mention. Other choice cuts include the 'Def Leppard' influenced 'Perfect Picture', the well sung 'The More that you Get' and the moving ballad 'Nobody Knows'. The best track has to go to the masterful 'Misery Loves Company', which features sweet chugging rhythm work, a massive chorus that is superbly sung and a magnificent shredding guitar solo- worth the cost of the album alone. 'Hard Luck', opens with an uncompromising keyboard / guitar intro that builds into a superb plodding rocker, also checkout the scintillating solo, 'Stevie Blaze' by name, blaze by nature. 'Waiting in the Dark' is a memorable ballad come rocker, a nice intricate piece with haunting vocals and melody, featuring a clever acoustic wind down, that abruptly fires back into the chorus. The closing number is the only unfocused effort on the disc, lyrically weak and repetitive.
A very good debut from this overlooked 'Hair Metal' group, and plenty more quality to come.
