More of the same from 'Motörhead' as this album follows on nicely from the solid foundation laid down by the 2000 release 'We Are Motörhead'. Although not, out and out as blistering as the predecessor, the intensity and solidity are still present, with song writing that is again more potent than their nineties albums. 'Phil Campbell's' guitaring continues to get better and better with some superb cutting riffs and irresistible grooves.

The opener 'Walk a Crooked Mile' is a new 'Motörhead' classic, not as hell bent as most, but a steady chugger, with driving bass line, innovative axe work and clever vocal arrangements- masterfully done. The groove factor goes through the roof with the smoking 'Down the Line', a head-banging speciality of the highest order, riff work is tops, the drumming aggressive and vocals, Lemmy's best. 'Brave New World' is fast and gutsy, but not one of the most interesting songs on the album, as the chorus is too repetitive and the lyrics don't quite fit in, they are however intelligent and poignant. My pick of the album is the ripping 'Voices from the War', as it features an absolutely tantalising groove, furious rhythm and is superbly written. The down tempo 'Mine of Mine' is solid, catchy and again all the better for 'Phil Campbell's' shrewd guitaring. The second half of the album, unfortunately doesn't live up to the first, 'Kill the World' is solid, with its sharp plodding rhythm and strong chorus but some verses do sound a bit awkward. Better tracks include the lively but basic 'Shut your Mouth', the strong groover 'Dr. Love' and the brooding 'No Remorse'. 'Red Raw' is a total thrash out, a bit crude and unpolished for my liking though. 'Serial Killer' is more poetry than a song and what unfolds is a 'Lemmy' doom laden tale, that wouldn't go a miss in a horror film- good stuff though.

I was lucky enough to pick up the special edition CD, which includes three live recordings 'Shoot you in the Back' from 'Ace of Spades', 'R.A.M.O.N.E.S' from '1916' and 'The Game', all of which are solid numbers. There is also a 16 minute "mpeg" preview of their DVD 'Boneshaker- 25 & Alive' which celebrates 'Motörhead's' 25th anniversary.
