Well what can you say about this classic, the debut that launched 'Guns N' Roses' into the stratosphere and beyond. 'Appetite for Destruction' highlights the 'Roses' at their rawest, most uncompromising and best and even when I was at school it was this album that had the most impact- if you didn't have a copy, you didn't exist. After listening, it seems unbelievable how these guys fell from grace, with an ability to cut excellence like this.

'Welcome to the Jungle' heads the album up in solid fashion, driven by snaking guitar work and 'Axl's' distinctive snarling vocals, makes for a cutting opener, also tasty is the mid-track slow down. 'It's so Easy' shows the nasty side of 'Guns N' Roses', with its intense rugged groove and hate ridden vocals, still a top cut though, with great sing-a-long chorus and tough lyrics. Following on in similar fashion is the bluesy rocker 'Night Train', that just has it all, a brilliantly penned number full of superb melody, smoking chorus and shredding axe work. Next up is the riff fuelled cracker 'Out Ta Get Me', where again the frontman thunders out the aggressive lyrics with abandon for a marvellous head-banger. One of my favourites is the simple but genius, carefree rocker 'Mr. Brownstone', just checkout the sweet vocals and chugging groove. The legend continues with the smash hit 'Paradise City', which is based around light sections being traded with heavy, and it all comes together with perfection, just wait for the whistle to blow, and the song jumps into life- Pure Bliss. More ecstasy can be found in the cracking 'My Michelle', a snaking groover of the highest order, lyrically close to the knuckle but just fantastic, Oh, and it's almost irresistible not to sing-a-long to the chorus!. Next up is the light-hearted 'Think about You', a quality rocker full of jamming guitars and snarling vocals. Another chart topper takes the form of the balladsy 'Sweet Child of Mine', where we really see 'Axl' come into his own, he delivers the lyrics with total conviction, although the guitars are more low-key on this number they are still a delight. The pace is stepped up again for the rapid blazer 'You're Crazy', a song where lead guitarists 'Slash' and 'Izzy Stradlin' really shine, with their superb soloing. The closing two numbers are probably not the strongest, but still are great tracks, which just shows how good the album is. 'Anything Goes' kicks off with an exquisite cutting groove, but evens out into a solid bluesy rocker, while 'Rocket Queen' chugs along nicely, with great riff work, but perhaps a tad drawn-out.

Over 50 minutes of pure rocking bliss 'Roses' style, what's your excuse for not having a copy?
