Hot on the heels of the respectable 'Ready An' Willing', 'Whitesnake' let their standards slip on 'Come An' Get It'. While it isn't a dire album, it just feels so average especially taking into consideration the musicians and producer (Martin Birch) involved. What is most obvious about this release is it lacks any real standout tracks such as 'Fool for your Loving' or 'Ready An' Willing' from the previous release or 'Crying in the Rain' or 'Here I go Again' from the following album 'Saints & Sinners'.

The title track opens the album in mediocre fashion, the initial intro is a copy of 'The Stones' 'Honky Tonk Woman', but continues in a different league to that classic, the rhythm work sounds laboured and unimaginative and while 'David Coverdale' gives it plenty, it's still lacking. Better is the up tempo 'Hot Stuff' an energy packed rocker, which displays some of 'Ian Paice's' finest drumming and the usual choice 'Purple' style organ work from 'Jon Lord'. Continuing in fine form is 'Don't Break my Heart Again', a well written mid tempo plodder, where 'David Coverdale' displays his fine melodic vocals on some enjoyable lyrics. Side one closes with the piano heavy, boogie sounding 'Wine, Woman An' Song', I could never see the appeal of this side of 'Whitesnake'. The second side opens with 'Child of Babylon', and initially starts out as a sort of 'Rainbow' style epic, but quickly goes down hill when the trademark bluesy 'Whitesnake' kicks in. Other uninspiring numbers include the repetitive, run of the mill 'Lonely Days, Lonely Nights', the blatantly trite offering known as 'would I Lie to You' and the lyrically shoddy, plodder 'Girl'. Things pick up a bit with 'Hit An' Run', a strong grooving number, that's spoilt by some strange vocal distortion mid way through. The album bows out with 'Till the Day I Die', a track that starts out as a slow acoustic number and builds into a solid 'Whitesnake' mid tempo rocker.

Fans of early 'Whitesnake' would be better off with the previous album 'Ready An' Willing' or their next release 'Saints & Sinners', as 'Come An' Get It' isn't up to 'Whitesnake's' usual standards.
