Very similar in approach to 'Midnight Dynamite' only better, more consistent and just as catchy. As with previous releases despite their simplistic song structures, they have an uncanny knack of making their songs very appealing and despite never achieving the success they deserved, have gained a large die-hard following of fans and after listening to a lot of their music recently it's easy to see why.
The quirkily titled 'Red Lite, Green Lite, TNT' opens 'Blow my Fuse' and its doesn't disappoint despite the odd lyrics, the driving rhythm is unusual but very captivating, this works especially well with the punchy guitar licks and makes for another underrated 'Kix' gem. The pace drops for the chorus heavy chant 'Get it while it's Hot', again the lyrics are hardly noteworthy, but the boys add their touch of magic and turn it into a quality light-weight rocker. A great guitar intro acts as a lead to 'No Ring around Rosie' but I can't really get into this drum and bass heavy number, and while the chorus is catchy it's pretty crude and overall comes across as a bit predictable, despite some tight guitar work. 'Don't close your Eyes' is perhaps one of 'Kix's' better known tracks and is a departure from their usual carefree rockers. It is however a very well performed emotional ballad that highlights an anti-suicide theme, 'Steve Whiteman' does excellently with the lyrics and is well supported throughout. The first half closes with a 'Kix' stable 'She Dropped me the Bomb', lyrically odd but it's still a solid carefree rocker. Other strong numbers include the chorus heavy 'Cold Blood', the good time groover 'Piece of the Pie' and the 'Led Zeppelin' inspired 'Boomerang' with its great harmonica work. The album close on a high with two crackers, first up is the glorious title track that features strong sing-a-long lyrics, a sweet guitar solo and a real enthusiastic performance all round. Finally an overlooked jewel from 'Kix' in the shape of 'Dirty Boys', a fast pace groover, full of fine fret work, gutsy yet catchy lyrics and as usual fine vocals from 'Steve Whiteman'.
If quality party rockers is your thing, then look no further than 'Kix', all their albums are along similar lines but 'Blow my Fuse' is one of their best.
