Another grooving staple from the fathers of 'Hard Rock', unfortunately by now their unwavering style is well and truly looking tired and a bit dated. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of crunching licks from the 'Young' brothers, that keeps the intrigue, but the song writing has definitely hit rock bottom. Such shameful lyrics include "Love bomb love bomb, its coming on strong", "The lightning rod, strike it hot, gonna hit you like the Rushmore rock" and the woeful "Wanna dance, wanna sing, whip you up like the lickin' thing".

'Hard as a Rock' is a solid opener, with sound vocals and nice chugging guitar work. 'Cover you in Oil' is trite, unremarkable and dull. 'The Furor' is a vast improvement although simple, holds a great catchy rhythm throughout. 'Burnin' Alive', features a nice steady building intro and solid chorus, but is ultimately let down by weak lyrics. Better tracks include the grooving 'Hail Caesar', the light-hearted rocker 'Caught with your Pants Down', the variety filled 'The Honey Roll' and the tight plodding 'Boogie Man'. On the other hand we have 'Love Bomb' with its unimaginatively dreary chorus and the repetitive 'Whiskey on the Rocks'. Fortunately we end with the excellent title track, a clever riff driven pounder, with choice guitaring and some of the strongest vocal work seen on this album, -my pick of the disc.

Although not a bad album, you do have a tendency to expect more from an established group in the nature of 'AC DC', thankfully strong guitar cuts, counteracts the poor penmanship. Fans will want a copy, but occasional listener, should skip this, and stick to the more consistent and innovative 'Bon Scott' era and early 80's releases.
