There was an explosion of hair metal bands in the late 80' but for most the changing face of Metal put pay to any further success, Babylon A.D. are a prime example. This album however is one of my favourites from the lesser known hair metal bands, as it contain less ballads and more gutsy Metal than many of the other stereotypical bands.
The album opens up with two right belters and probably the best tracks on the disc, 'Bang Go the Bells' is a real pounding treat, with a grooving rhythm and all round top playing. 'Hammer Swings Down' is my pick of the disc, and features a brilliant swaggering sing-a-long chorus- great stuff. 'Caught up in the Crossfire' is slower, but has a good plod and nice backing vocals that add plenty of emotion. 'The Kid goes Wild' is a nasty attitude ridden piece, with top guitar work and aggressive vocals. With a title like 'Maryanne' you would probably expect a ballad, but in fact its a pretty good chorus heavy rocker. Other impressive cuts include the ballad 'Desperate', which is sung with real conviction, the well penned 'Back in Babylon' and the grooving sing-a-long 'Sweet Temptation'. Finishing the album is an interesting heavy blues number, 'Sally Dance' which is reminiscent of 'Badlands' but isn't quite on par with their standard.
Ok maybe I've been a bit generous with this review, but its pretty consistent, unlike may albums released at this time.
